Steve Roehm
plays vibraphone and contributes wicked arrangements in The New Standards. A Minnesota native, Steve Roehm went south to study
jazz and percussion at the University of North Texas. After six years,
Steve escaped Texas to tour the US with Kansas City-based funk band
Billygoat. Billygoat’s first gig in Minnesota was opening for Trip
Shakespeare’s last First Ave show.
When Steve returned to Minneapolis in 1994, he formed Your
Neighborhood Trio and honed his vibraphone skills. He went on
to play regularly with swing band Vic Volare and Volare Lounge Orchestra,
popsters Fire Under Water, and his own power pop group Rhombus;
as well as playing with Matt Wilson, Dan Schwartz, Clay Moore and
Christine Rosholt.
Steve’s other current project, Electropolis takes him to the other
musical extreme. With Steve on drums, it is an improv ensemble
that defies genres, featuring improvised bass, electotrumpet,
and electrosaxophone.
Steve spreads his wisdom to aspiring drummers and rockers as
a faculty member at MacPhail Center for Arts.
