Video: TNS with the Minnesota Orchestra

Orchestra leaders worldwide, we need to talk. We had an amazing time performing with the Minnesota Orchestra this summer, and we want to do it again. Check out this clip, and hit us up.

DECADE, The New Standards' fourth full-length release is a much less somber collection than their last album, 2012's Sunday Morning Coming Down, and features more upbeat tunes including fresh takes on New Order, St. Vincent, The Ramones, Joy Division, David Bowie, T Rex and Big Star. True to form, though, the band can't help but include a few heartbreakers, notably Elliott Smith's "Between The Bars" and something unusual for this outfit, an original song from Chan Poling, "Butterfly"

The main focus of the group remains imbuing old songs (from a canon defined only by the group's quirky taste) with new life via stripped down arrangements featuring piano, vibraphone, and double bass, delivering fresh insights into the songs and allowing the audience to hear them as if for the first time. The new collection finds Chan and John in fine voice, delivering the odd poetry of "Bang A Gong," "Ashes to Ashes," and "Cruel" alongside the elegant rock simplicity of "I Wanna Be Your Boyfriend" and "I Want You To Want Me".

Get your copy in Minneapolis at the Electric Fetus, at The New Standards' upcoming live shows, and via digital platforms including Bandcamp.
