Princess Kay Haiku Contest
Monday, September 3, 2012 at 10:57PM
What is it about the idea and actuality of a woman carved from a block of butter that stirs our hearts? Truly it's like a something out of The Brothers Grimm or Hans Christian Andersen. It could either be a Fairy Tale or a story with a coda like, "And that's why little girls can't eat butter anymore..." or something like that.
Anyway, we love you Princess Kay of the Milky Way, and to prove our abiding affection, we have organized a contest, with prizes (!), to celebrate you in poetry, mostly haiku. The contest was launched from the stage at The Minnesota State Fair Friday at our show in Heritage Square and will conclude at midnight, Tuesday September 4th. If you wish to enter in the next 24 hours or so please post your haiku on twitter using the hashtag #princesskayhaiku and send to @newstandards We will pick a male and a female winner and post our picks for the ten best haiku here! If you want to see all the poems just search #princesskayhaiku on twitter.
Can't wait to see what you come up with... and thanks to those who made it to the fair shows! They were absolutely awesome!

The results are in! We have carefully examined the haiku. There are many beautiful poems and a few silly ones, and a two winners, one man, one woman plus two honorable mentions. Thank you for writing such fine works and most of all for listening!
First a selection of the best (in our opinion!) haiku:
Buttery beauty
ageless in the fridgid cool
waiting for warm roll.
Miss America
ain't never been carved in butter.
Princess Kay rules.
Milky Way, lovely
Skin – Woe to a dripping face.
Melting, sunshine sin.
Beautiful, smiling
separated from the fair
put ME on a stick!
Icebox royalty,
Is your lactose tolerant
of warm caresses?
She waits quietly
yearning for the dulcet tones
strings, hammers and vibes.
O, grinning butter;
O, anthropomorphic fat:
Damn, you are creepy.
Buttery temptress
I'm lactose intolerant
it would never work.
Timeless milky whey,
glowing enshrined bust spinning,
dreams with starchy lust.
These refer to the band and so we love them, but cannot reward pandering… and yet… pander on! Maybe we will reward pandering in the future.
Princess kay is made
of butter and Chan so longs
to be her lover.
John Munson requires
haikus carved from butter.
Must be a fetish.
Stunning yet slippery
Pricess Kay in butter block
Like Steve Roehm's solos
And now, THE WINNERS!
Queens carved in butter
their disembodied heads stare
silently freezing
Anita Martini
Abase yourself, churl!
Princess Kay demands your praise.
Obey her or die!
Tim Zigmund
With honorable mentions to:

Milky Way, can't you please stay?
Summer melts with you
Kaia Peters
As the Midway hummed,
You held us captive in time,
Sweet music craftsmen.
